Grecian style swimming pool at Hearst Castle in California

Set high up on a hill with far-reaching views along the Californian coast, Hearst Castle is the former home of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. A slightly mad mixture of architectural styles, he changed the design so many times he never saw it completed. It has 56 bedrooms, indoor and outdoor pools, an airfield, a cinema and a private zoo – you can still spot a few zebras in the grounds today. Although the original visitors were the Hollywood elite of the ’20s and ’30s, its now a National Historic Landmark so you can stop off on a California roadtrip and do your best Cary Grant or Joan Crawford impression.

  1. The memory that stands out for me about that place, is when you are standing by the pool, and no matter where you stand, the optical allusion causes you to think you are standing by the lowest point in the pool.

Nice pictures, thank you for sharing them.
